An equestrian story: Riding with China.
Residing in Sedalia, Colorado, China is a wonderful model and perfect livestock specimen. We were lucky to photograph her. Sometimes horses flinch pretty hard when lights flash around them, and she remained perfectly calm and extremely easy to work with. In the past, I’ve been head butted by a large horse because of my camera. But, China was a doll.
Amberly and her husband, Kit approached me about doing an album she was dedicating to her father that had recently passed. Kit is a fellow photographer and they’re both extremely good friends. With that in mind, I wanted to make sure to do a good job. After brainstorming a slew of ideas, we realized it was best to do a combination of where she grew up and some mild surrealism. So, we set out to Sedalia, Colorado to photograph a horse named China.
After we had our fill of images of the beautiful horse, it was time to get to work. I began combining images Kit had taken of Amberly’s Montana homestead with our horse. I was able to create some pretty differing styles for them to choose from. All-in-all, we settled on something that felt old and timeless. I hope you enjoy the images we got to create as much as I enjoyed making them!
